CarLoader : CarLoader is a program that keeps track of cars and tracks for Midtown Madness. I suggest getting this program (http://drive.to/carloader). This car might not be compatible with CarLoader. If it isn't follow the following instructions. It will read the file as "(error) vp87escort.ar". To fix it, let it finish loading, then right click "(error) vp87escort.ar" and select "Change Name" and change it to "'87 Ford Escort". Move the picture that's included in the zip to your CarLoader images folder. To view the picture, right click "'87 Ford Escort" and select "View".

Recommended : 90-100% Physics, anything lower and the steering gets too sensitive and it may tip over. It will look better with reflections on and Best Texture Filter off.

Notes :
***************************************

The Ford Escort was introduced in North America in 1981. It was based off the successful platform used in Europe. This new subcompact was ment to replace the failing Pinto. This was Ford's first front-wheel-drive car. It originally had a carburated 1.6L Overhead-Cam Compound Valve Hemispherical (HEMI!) 4-cylinder engine. By 1987, not much has changed except for a redesign in the middle of 1985. Changes included the addition of a bigger engine with electronic fuel injection (1.9L EFI) and some cosmetic touches (bumpers, lights, grille, and dash).

The "Pony" version I have made is the lowest priced model of the Escort. It had one manual side mirror, crank windows, independent rear suspension, power brakes, no power steering, no trip odometer, no clock, no A/C, no bumper rub strips, no radio, no rear wiper, and a manual transaxle. Yeah, a pretty boring, cheap little car that'll get you from point A to point B. My friend has one and he would rather have something else, but is happy because at least he has a car.

Model : This MM re-creation has a 3D Wheels, 3D mirror, 3D roof trim, 3D bumper trim, 3D wheel arch, and recessed rear license plate. It has around 1200 polys for body_h because of the 3D-ness.

Sounds : The drive sound is from MM2's Mini Cooper Classic. The idle is from a traffic car. The horn is from the in-game '68 Mustang. If you have a problem with the sounds, turn off your speakers.

Tuning : I really have no idea what the stats for this car is, so it's tuned to my personal experiances with an '81 and my friend's stories about his '87. It's slower than a snail and handles like an '80s car. The automatic is a 3-speed, so it's evenly spaced gears upto 90 MPH. Acceleration and torque is crap using the auto. 3rd is geared high since it's an overdrive gear. The 5-speed manual is a bit better. In real life, you could probably do a burnout with the manual and it's feels like it has more torque. 5th gear on the manual is overdrive, so it's suppose to bring the revs down when you shift into it from 4th. I don't know the real acceleration times, so I made it do 0-60 in about 15 seconds. It's probably not that slow in real life, but sometimes it can feel like it is. The top speed in-game is around 95 MPH, but you could probably push it over 100 if you're going down a hill. I dunno the real top speed, but I know it doesn't stop at 85 MPH.

Textures : The textures are of great quality. Mostly hand drawn. The lights, grille, bumpers, and license plate were the only things that were taken from pictures of existing cars. The neat window texture was provided by Tek_Speedy. The colors are the colors you'd expect to find on this style Escort.

Dash : The dash is made up of a few pictures taken by myself. The speedometer is the only picture that was taken off the internet. It's quite hard to find good pictures of the dash on the internet. The numbers look blurred, but you can still make out what they mean. The cluster has reflections. One reason I left it in is because it adds a bit of realism and another reason is I'm not that good at removing the reflections. Not the best dash I've made, but at least it has a dash.

Known issues : The shading for the sides will look screwed up with the reflections off, but that's the game's fault.
