'90 Dodge Caravan Beater and Cargo Vans (Special Edition)
January 10, 2002

**********************************************************************************

This version of the Beater and Cargo Caravan are intended for the friends of Qwerty_86. No other person can have a copy without my authorization. This version includes two extra color schemes that the regular versions of the van doesn't have. It includes a beater "Canadian Tire" van (suggested by JN_Parisienne) and a Toronto Maple Leafs cargo van (suggested by b_rock). If you have this version, do not download the regular beater and cargo vans since it will overwrite this version. If you intend to play multiplayer with someone who do not has this van, please use the regular beater and regular cargo paint schemes only since it might crash the game if you use the special paint schemes. You may post picture of the special paint schemes, but if anyone asks, tell them that it is a Beta color scheme that didn't make it into the final. Have fun!

CarLoader : CarLoader is a program that keeps track of cars and tracks for Midtown Madness. I suggest getting this program (http://drive.to/carloader). The minivan are not compatible with CarLoader. It will read the file as "(error) vpkrapvan.ar". To fix it, let it finish loading, then right click "(error) vpkrapvan.ar" and select "Change Name" and change it to "'90 Dodge Caravan Beater & Cargo". Move the picture that's included in the zip to your CarLoader images folder. To view the picture, right click "'90 Dodge Caravan Beater & Cargo" and select "View".

Recommended : 80-100% Physics, anything lower and the car's steering gets too sensitive and it may tip on two wheels. If you do use it under 80%, then be prepared to fall out of your seat laughing at the way it handles.

Notes :

It's basically a K-Car! Based on the Chrysler Corporations' famous compact. Almost all front wheel drive cars from Chrysler in the '80s were based on the K-car including the famous minivans. It's equipt with a 3.3L V6 and it uses the longer "Grand Caravan/Voyager" chassis which was just an extended version of the K-Car chassis. I don't think Chrysler ever made a cargo van like this. They're usually on the shorter wheelbase and have recessed sealed beam headlights. I guess this cargo van would be considered a custom.

This MM re-creation has 3D mirrors, 3D rear wiper, 3D roof racks, 3D hood ornament, and hi-poly wheels. The horn is from the '68 Mustang in-game and it works well. If you have a problem with the sounds, turn off your speakers. The engine sounds are a mix of the in-game Cadillac, Mustang, and traffic car engine sounds. I also threw in a mix of a 16-year-old dying dryer for the beater version. That sound was also used for the sound of the beater K-car.

Each van has it's own selection screen song. The beater has the intro from "Spirit in the Sky" by Norman Greenbaum. The cargo van has the intro from "We're An American Band" by Grand Funk Railroad.

The shocks are tuned to be like what worn out, 12-year-old shocks should be. Just try rounding a corner at high speeds. The beater has a broken transmission. Third gear in manual is broken and if you drive over 80 MPH int he automatic, it'll fail. Each color has it's own license plate (courtesy of ACME License Plate Maker - http://www.acme.com/licensemaker/).

The beater has mismatched panels and lots of rust and sun fade. The beater also has rusted wheels (with new center cap) and missing hood ornament. The cargo van has a plain white scheme with a bumper sticker. There are hundreds of different possibilities for a cargo van, so I thought it'd be easier just to make one. These has to be the most realistic texture I've done so far.

Known issues : The wheels have the polys showing in the selection screen, but they're fine in-game.
